01 · The story

One man erases names.
One woman restores them.

They are counting the same people.

In the lawless Darién Gap, a cartel enforcer who runs the migrant “tollbooth” believes he is the only thing keeping desperate people alive. Then he is ordered to start disappearing them to hide a cocaine road.

When his own ten-year-old daughter vanishes into the pipeline he built, the only person who can find one living girl among the anonymous dead is the forensic scientist downriver whose evidence of his massacre is about to call a U.S. missile down on them all.

“To save one living child, the woman who names the dead must aim a strike at ninety.”

Camilo must break his own machine to undo it. Sol must decide whether the truth she has assembled can save a child without killing the people around her.

02 · The world

Where beauty and atrocity share a frame.

For five hundred years the Darién Gap turned back everyone who tried to cross it — a sixty-six-mile hole in the only highway connecting two continents, a green wall of mud, flood and fever. The wettest forest on earth. An emerald twilight where water, not light, is the architect.

Then, in a handful of years, half a million desperate people walked through it, and the fortress fell — not to armies, but to need. They left behind a poisoned river, a plastic tide in the branches, and a run of anonymous dead. TOLLBOOTH lives at the exact point where beauty and atrocity share a single frame.

Camilo Arboleda

A charming, precise, water-worn enforcer. A killer whose hands never shake. He strips people down to numbers while telling himself his order is a wall against worse violence. His fall and his redemption are the same motion.

The namer · Forensic scientist

Dr. Marisol “Sol” Ferrán

Still, dry, fierce, and tender only with the dead. She kneels in the river to restore identities. Two enemies discover they lost the same person to the same water — and built opposite lives from the same wound.

05 · The set pieces

Five held breaths.

I

The Freelancers

A night reckoning in the rain that makes us root for the killer — because he gives the stolen money back.

II

The Cleaning

A flash flood, engineered — the line Camilo cannot uncross, shot from chest-deep inside it, with faces we already know going under.

III

The Recovery

A two-boat river chase and a capsize in the rapids; Sol going under to save the one body that proves a murder.

IV

The Pipeline

Camilo running his own machine as it turns on him — and a bridge duel with the dark mirror of himself, over fast black water.

V

The Strike

The climax under a thermal eye: a man breaks his own choke point with a folded knife, turning a target back into ninety scattering people, and pays for it.

06 · Original motion picture score

Let the river speak.

The score follows the film’s dramatic architecture — marimba de chonta, cununo, bombo and guasá woven into strings, cello, brass, piano and atmospheric design.
